A brilliant surgeon known for his invention of Modi’s—the only cure for the deadly disease, vaincre—has gone rogue with his experiments, and the Monarchy is desperate to shut him down. That’s where Aeva Storm comes in, a champion athlete with an ego to match. Aeva is the surgeon’s secret weapon against the Monarchy. And they’ll never know what hit them. After reconstructing her body to become a Modi unlike any he’s ever created, Aeva is forced into a fight against all odds. She’ll have to break loyalties, hurt family, and turn her back on newly awakened love. Thousands of lives hang in the balance in a battle that will set forth a new era.

Desperation makes me want to beg Jervis to let me go, but I shove the thought away. I’m not giving him the satisfaction. I concentrate instead on the net, searching for something to cut it with.
A lecherous smile curves Jervis’ lips. He unfastens the belt around his waist, drops down on his knees, loosens the net, and releases my foot.
I plant a solid kick to his face, hearing a satisfying crack where his nose had been. His head whips back and he lands hard on his rear—his hands flying to the center of his face. He roars in pain, spitting warbled curses through the blood gushing from his nose. I attack the small opening, my numb fingers fumbling with the rope and wire.
Pain hits me, so acute I scream like it’s been ripped from my lungs. White-hot electricity courses through my body, constricting my chest, snapping my back into a rigid bow. The surge pulses up my spine and along my neck, leaving a trail of mind-numbing agony.
“You bad little girl. I’m gonna make you pay real good.” Jervis’ stubby hands wrap around my neck, blood dribbling down his lips and chin. This close, I can smell the stench of unwashed skin and decay. His legs tighten around my middle, straddling me and pinning the net to the ground. I can’t move. My arms are trapped under his weight, unable to pry his hands off my throat.
The strength of his grip crushes my windpipe. Hungry for air, I buck and jerk wildly beneath him. His knees squeeze tighter, gluing our bodies. I can’t throw him off.
“You got a lotta fight in you. Well, I’ll take care of that.”
My mouth opens and closes, but no air comes in. The black grip of unconsciousness starts to darken my vision.
A whistle sounds above me, a blade slicing through air, and the pressure eases off my neck. I inhale greedily, wheezing and spitting up. Jervis slips sideways. His body hits the ground and his head rolls away, the same wicked expression still carved into his face.
I sense the newcomer moving closer. Another whistle sounds and the glint of a blade lashes out. Every muscle in my body clenches tight, bracing myself for the sting of the cut. It never comes. The net slips off. It takes a moment for my mind to realize that I’m no longer restrained and when it hits me, I crab crawl away from the new threat.
“If I wanted to hurt you, I would’ve done so,” the stranger says in a deep baritone. The lower half of his face is covered beneath a mask.
“Who are you?” I croak.
“No one you need to remember. If you’re done wasting my time, why don’t you do something smart, like getting up? The other moron will be back any minute.”
I scan over him quickly, noticing his weathered clothing; dark enough to hide him in the forest, form-fitting so that it doesn’t make a sound. He’s tall, lean, and graceful like a predator.
I shake my head. “Not until you show me your face,” I say. My voice comes out hoarse and my hand flies up to the base of my neck. I wince at the tenderness of what I’m sure will be bruises in the shape of Jervis’s disgusting hands.
My rescuer says nothing.
“What?” I snort, sounding fearless despite the harsh pounding of my heart. “Not pretty under there?” The question is harsh, but I want him to know that I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Except of course, if a brute Outlander were strangling me…
He stares back at me, grumbling something about “girls being stupid.” But he removes the cowl over his head and pulls down the cloth covering his nose and mouth, revealing a smooth, stone-like face. His black, shoulder-length hair flies in the gusty wind, a sharp contrast to his fair complexion. We stare at each other until I look away, uncomfortable with the way his green-gold gaze sharpens when he concentrates on my face. Shame fills me. Between the two of us, I’m the one whose face should be hidden, sparing people from the ugliness. He, on the other hand…
“Feel better now?” he asks. “Thought I might have been the grim reaper come to collect?”

Sig's book is here!

All Things Pretty

Pretending to be something they’re not, afraid to trust anyone completely, destined to tear each other apart– this is the story of unlikely love and unbearable consequences.

Sig Locke is a cop. He was raised by a cop and all his brothers are cops. He bleeds blue, believes in right and wrong, and sees in black and white, never in shades of gray.

But that was before he met Tommi.

Tommi, with her long legs and bright green eyes, she captured Sig’s interest from the moment he saw her. Even after he discovered who she was–the girlfriend of a drug dealer, the beauty behind a criminal–he still found her utterly irresistible. What Sig doesn’t know, however, is that she has a secret even a cop can’t uncover.

Tommi Lawrence hasn’t had an easy life, and it only got more complicated the day she met Sig. She learned long ago that she can’t trust anyone. Her gut tells her that Sig is no exception, her heart tells her that he is. But that was before she found out his real identity.

Her lips are still curved when she turns her attention back to me.  Something about the moment hits me like a punch to the gut.  I think for a second that I could stand here and stare at her, just enjoy her smile and her happiness for hours.  Days, maybe.  But I can’t.   We can’t. So, instead, I brush a clump of mud from the end of her nose. “Have fun?”

“I did. Thank you. This was so good for him.”

“And you.”

“And me,” she concedes.

“You can be the real you around me anytime.  I won’t tell a soul.”

“So you prefer this?”

“Oh, hell yeah!  I don’t need glamorous. Or proper.”

“I’m not proper.”

“You forget that I heard your…expressiveness that day on the side of the road.  And it didn’t consist of ‘darn’ or ‘golly gee’.  But I haven’t heard anything like that come out of your mouth since then.”

“Ladies aren’t supposed to talk that way, according to Lance.”

“I don’t want a lady. I want a woman.  One who knows her own mind. One who wears what she’s comfortable in, one who says what she’s thinking.”  I take a step closer. I can’t help myself. Her scent draws me in.  Even covered in mud, she smells like sexy sunshine.  “I want the woman who kisses like she’s on fire and makes me feel like I’m the only one who can put her out.”

“Sig,” she begins.

I break in to cut her off.  I know her objections.  And I know how much I don’t want to hear them.  “I’m just being honest.  I’m not even touching you.”

Her eyes are glued to mine, a damn near irresistible gravity pulling us together.  “It’s not like you can anyway.  I mean, we’re in public.  With my little brother.  What could you possibly touch?”

I reach down and smear my hand in mud.  With her eyes locked on mine, I reach between us and flatten my palm on her chest, right over her heart.  “This.  I’d touch this.”

According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

An exhale of breath leaves Brandon’s lips, almost like a laugh, and he scoots closer to me on the blanket. I twist my legs under myself, sitting tall as I face him. He cups my chin and tilts it toward him, drowning me in the now dark-green depths of his eyes, the cologne I gave him for his birthday filling my head. It’s woodsy and yummy and I always loved how it smelled on the store testers, but on Brandon, it’s even sexier. My eyes flutter closed, and I inhale again, this time slowly. Goose bumps prickle my arms, and my head gets fuzzy.
Brandon slides his hand down the column of my neck and brings the other up, threading his fingers through the hair at my nape. His breath fans across my cheek, and everything south of my bellybutton squeezes tight.
When his mouth first meets mine, it’s hesitant, questioning. But as I move my lips with his, he quickly grows bolder, coaxing them apart.
Desire, pure and raw, electrifies my veins as his tongue sweeps my mouth. A whimpering sound springs from my chest, and instinctively, I wrap my arms around his neck, tugging him closer. Needing more. My teeth graze his full bottom lip, and I pull it, sucking on it gently.
He moans and knots his fingers in my hair, and a thrill dances down my back.
Brandon is an amazing kisser, just as I knew he would be. I have no control over my body’s reactions. I lose myself in his lips, his tongue, and his strong arms, forgetting time and space and even my surroundings—until Gabi’s snicker brings reality crashing around us, reminding me we have an audience.
And that I’m kissing Brandon.
We break apart, out of breath, and stare into each other’s eyes.
That was unexpected.

“Liv, what’s going on? Is she okay? Keefer told me what went down.”
I moved away from the door and met Ethan halfway. “No, she isn’t okay.” It came out bitter.
“Can I do anything? I could come-”
I shook my head. “We’re fine, thanks.” Without realizing I stepped back and Ethan’s face paled.
“And us?”
My eyes dropped to the floor.
“Liv, look at me. What. About. Us?”
I forced myself to look at him. My head and heart were at war. My heart wanted him to wrap me in his arms and tell me everything was going to be okay. That Amber would heal. That Sharn would meet her Prince Charming. That we really did have something. But my head knew better. My head would always know better.
“There is no us. I’m sorry, Ethan. Goodbye.” I turned from him and fled back to the limo.
“You’re running from me, Liv. Don’t use this as an excuse to run,” he called out.
Once in the safety of the limo, I slammed the door behind me, ignoring Sharn’s questioning glare.
“How is she?”
“A mess. This will leave scars.” Sharn answered.
I leaned my head onto the backrest and pressed a finger to my lips, trying to remember what kissing Ethan felt like. Was it even real? It didn’t feel real. Not now. It felt like a dream—the really good kind, until you wake up and realize it was just that.
A dream.
Because in the harsh light of day, life wasn’t like that. It was hard—full of hurt and people who let you down.
No, life wasn't like a dream at all.
