Click Date Repeat
by K. J. Farnham
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age category: Adult
Release Date: 21 August, 2014
BlurbThese days, finding love online is as commonplace as ordering that coveted sweater. But back in 2003, the whole concept of Internet dating was still quite new, with a stigma attached to it that meant those who were willing to test the waters faced a fair amount of skepticism from friends and family.Such is the case for Chloe Thompson, a restless 20-something tired of the typical dating scene and curious about what she might find inside her parents’ computer. With two serious but failed relationships behind her, Chloe isn’t even entirely sure what she’s looking for. She just knows that whatever it is, she wants to find it.Based loosely on author K. J. Farnham’s real-life online dating experiences, Chloe’s foray into online dating involves a head-first dive into a world of matches, ice breakers and the occasional offer of dick pics, all while Chloe strives to shake herself of the ex who just refuses to disappear. Will she simultaneously find herself and “the one” online, or will the ever-growing pile of humorous and downright disastrous dates only prove her friends and family right? There’s only one way to find out…
Click. Date. Repeat.
Excerpt
Since Sean lives south of the movie theater and
Shelly, Craig and I live about fifteen minutes north, we decide to just meet
there. When I mentioned that Shelly and Craig were interested in joining us, he
jumped at the opportunity to meet my friends. To top off his willingness to
share our date with others, he also offered to pick us up. I told him there was
no need for that, but these gestures made me even more excited about the
prospect of getting to know him.
“So, what are we seeing?” Craig asks.
“Love Actually.” Shelly and I
respond at the same time.
Craig looks at me in the rearview mirror. “Does your guy know we’re
seeing a chick flick?”
“Yeah, he’s the one who suggested we see it. His sister saw it and she
told him it’s the perfect date movie.”
“Aw. That’s so sweet that he talked to his sister about your date.”
“Why is that sweet?” Craig asks.
“Because I think any guy who talks to his sister about his love life is
probably pretty sensitive and thoughtful.”
Craig laughs. “That’s a load of crap. Your brother talks to you about
his love life all the time.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Anyway, are you nervous, Chloe?”
“No. Not really. I’m actually a little excited to see him.”
We pull into the parking lot right when I told Sean we would arrive. He
is already waiting out front.
“There he is,” I say as we drive past.
“Ooh. He’s cute,” Shelly whispers.
I notice that Sean is wearing a different baseball cap this time. The
hat is dark blue, and it is forward facing. I wonder if collecting hats is a
hobby or if he just likes to accessorize. But most of all, I wonder if he ever
goes anywhere without wearing a hat.
“I thought you liked tall guys,” Craig says. “What is he? Five-six, five-seven?”
“No, five-eight.” I know this is probably not true, even though it is
the height he listed on his profile, but the fact that Craig is pointing out a
height deficiency bothers me.
“Uh uh. He is not five-eight.
Trust me.” Craig shakes his head.
“Who really cares?” Shelly pipes in. “If Chloe doesn’t care how short
he is, why should you?”
How short he is? So,
Shelly thinks he’s short too? I
almost ask Shelly how tall she thinks he is, but the car is parked and my
friends are already getting out.
As soon as Sean sees us, he rushes over and gives me a hug.
“Hey. It’s so nice to see you again,” he says.
When our torsos part and we are face-to-face, I am
reminded of how good this guy makes me feel. “Yeah, it’s nice to see you too.”
