Ben inherits land way upstate from his grandmother, the two of them began to
believe in second chances. But upon arriving in Swannhaven, a town that seems
to have been forgotten by time, they’re beset by strange sights and
disconcerting developments…and they begin to realize they might have made their
worst mistake yet. But what dark secret is buried in this odd place? And will
Ben and Caroline figure it out soon enough to save their young family?

This suspenseful thriller that takes
place in a small, close-knit town that is full of history and secrets –
some pretty sick and twisted secrets.
The plot is one that slowly builds,
gaining in intensity – the suspense and mystery building as the story progressed. Mr. Duffy’s writing style is very detailed
and descriptive and because of this I could really visualize the events as the
story unfolded. My only one complaint was the ending. It was very different; so much that I felt as
though the author really didn't know how to wrap this story up. After the slow
build-up with the story, it just felt somewhat rushed. Otherwise, this story was superbly well-written
and flowed smoothly.
House of Echoes is Brendan Duffy's
first novel, and for a first I am highly impressed. The author has
created unique and captivating story with an intricate and mesmerizing plot
that kept me engrossed throughout. House
of Echoes is not your traditional horror, as you will not find any ghosts or
supernatural beings. What this story is
though is something much worse – a true nightmare. Overall, I found the book enjoyable and well
worth the time invested.
