Rick pulled her close. Her body turned stiff, resistant. "It's all right, Sam."

The words stuck in his throat. No promises, he reminded himself.

He wanted to comfort her, somehow make it better. Without thinking, he tilted up her chin and lowered his mouth to hers, only a simple touch of lips at first. Sam's eyelids fluttered, but she didn't pull away. He should have stepped back then, but the softness of her lips, the quickening of her breath captivated him.

He held her loosely, so she could free herself if she wanted. Instead she moved in closer. He trailed his fingers down her sides, his touch gentle. In his arms she felt tiny and fragile. Her small, round breasts pressed against his chest, and fire raced down his spine straight to his dick. Rick shifted as it began to swell. Shit, what a time to get a hard-on. He didn't want to come on like some horndog just looking to get laid.

Sam wouldn't let him retreat. She threw her arms around his neck and held tight. As their lips clung, Rick deepened the kiss, opening his mouth. She followed his lead. When their tongues touched, lust zapped him, followed quickly by reason.

"Whoa." He stepped back, freeing himself from her hold.

"Rick." Her lips were swollen, her gaze soft. Her arms remained open, inviting him to return to her embrace. He wanted to, more than anything.

No. He had to stay cool. He hadn't meant for it to get this far.

Weird, because she wasn't his type. He liked tall girls with long legs. Long hair. Hot girls who knew how to dress, knew how to fix themselves up. Girls like Britt.

He almost rolled his eyes. Yeah, sure. Britt. Look how that turned out.

Crazy that a funny little chick like Sam would have his gut in a twist and his dick hard as a rock. All the little things about her that caught his attention—her soft hair, her trim body, her love of animals—had crept under his defenses. He wanted her.

And she wanted him. The glow in her eyes, the sigh escaping her parted lips told him so. "Rick."

Ah, the hell with it. He grabbed her, crushed her against him, and claimed her mouth. Their lips and tongues clashed, then melded as the kiss turned slower, softer. Deeper. Fire blazed through him, then shivers as though freezing winds blasted him. Sam was shaking too. She slipped her hands over his shoulders, down his arms. What would you be doing right now if you were not an author?

If I were not an author, I would still be editing books for indie authors and loving every second of it.

5 years ago: what were you doing?

Five years ago, I was working nights at Wal-Mart in their cash office, counting tons of money every night.

Do you have a certain writing ritual?

My writing ritual is to listen to some inspiring music for about a half hour or read some before starting. After that, I try to write whenever I can, sneaking in the time gaps in our schedules.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

My toughest criticism has been that my endings aren’t always what the reader expected. I see this as a criticism and a compliment. I don’t really want to write what everyone expects.

Ever fangirled over another author? Who was it?

Absolutely! I’ve totally fan-girled over so many authors. I’m first and foremost a reader after all! It was actually Shelly Crane. I flew to Florida to see her and wigged out hard.

Is there an author you'd like to meet?

I would love to meet Jay Asher. 13 Reasons Why is a book that continues to impact my life every day. It makes me think about who I am and how I treat others in every situation. He’s a brilliant author. I’d probably faint.

Biggest writing pet peeve?

My biggest writing peeve is that horrible little word count box at the bottom of the page. Once I learned to make that sucker go away, I was in heaven.

Do you read other's reviews of your books?

I read other’s reviews of my books in the first month of their release. After that, I check them every 6 months or so. It can be painful and humbling to see what others think of our books.

Lila Felix is full of antics and stories. She refused to go to Kindergarten after the teacher made her take a nap on the first day of school. She staged her first protest in middle school. She almost flunked out of her first semester at Pepperdine University because she was enthralled with their library and frequently was locked in. Now her husband and three children have to put up with her rebel nature in Louisiana where her days are filled with cypress trees, crawfish, and of course her books and writing. She writes about the ordinary people who fall extraordinarily in wild, true love.

It’s him. Mark. My ex-boyfriend.

Hannah Both Ways is a story of one high school student who is a victim of cyber-bullying and how she deals with the aftermath of social media bashing and untrue nasty rumors. 

I really admired Hannah because even though her world was crumbling, she stayed strong and resilient.  The most admirable aspect of Hannah is she never gave up – she realized that this was a temporary problem in her life and did not even contemplate a more permanent solution.  I also loved her snarky words, her wittiness, and most of all her social awkwardness.  Hannah is a character that I truly liked and rooted for until the very end.  Her ritual with the Dewey Decimal System was ingenious and I thought it was a great way for her to have a goal for each day.

Lucas was indeed a God-send that came at the perfect time in Hannah’s life and I was so happy that he had the patience of a saint when it came to dealing with Hannah’s cynical and untrusting ways.  These two made the perfect duo and rounded out the story perfectly.

Reading this book took me back to my high school days and reminded me that kids can be cruel and heartless – it seems some things never change.  Add the social media outlets and I am beyond thankful that these outlets weren't around in my day.  Some kids have no idea how their hateful actions affect others or if they are aware, they flat out just don’t care.  This story depicted verbal/written bullying perfectly and I applaud the author for creating an outstanding story that deals with a very difficult subject.

I would absolutely recommend Hannah Both Ways not only to young adults but older ones as well.  It’s a great way of bringing cyber-bullying to light and showing a positive outcome to a dismal situation.
