 Always a wingman . . .

Owen McConnell is used to being ignored. After all, it's only when he appears as the Colorado Avalanche's team mascot that he gets all the attention. When the costume is off, women tend to gravitate toward his famous hockey player friends. But after he meets lovely, damaged Paige Adams, he knows he can be the star player for her. She's raising funds for the hospital burn unit, and Owen's determined to help her out---and sweep her off her feet.

The burn unit has been near and dear to Paige's heart ever since the doctors helped her after a vicious attack. Yet the scars---both emotional and physical---haven't faded as much as she'd hoped. She's closed herself off from relationships, and the thought of opening up is terrifying. But Owen's sexy charm might be just the push Paige needs to start loving again.

“Okay, I’ve got one,” Paige said, pointing to Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up.”
If anyone could help him seduce a woman, it was Bob Marley. Sliding the coins into the machine, he kept one eye on the door as she made her selection.
As the soft beat started, she smiled. “I love this song.”
He was in love with her smile. As she headed back toward the booth, he grabbed her hand and pulled her into him.
A slight look of intrigued panic flickered across her features. “What are you doing?” she asked as he drew her into him, wrapping his arms around her waist. Her soft perfume and the feel of her body beneath his hands made it impossible to let her go, even if he wanted to.
“Dancing with you. I knew if I asked, you’d say no,” he said, swaying slowly to the beat. Every other thought left him as he enjoyed the moment, knowing he may not get this opportunity again. Nothing else mattered except the woman in his arms.
She glanced around the bar, which had gotten busier while he’d been caught up completely in her. “No one else is dancing…”
“That’s okay. I don’t want to dance with anyone else.”
She sighed and reluctantly slid her arms around his neck. “This isn’t exactly a dance floor.”
“Any floor can be a dance floor,” he said, drawing her even closer as his hands slid a fraction lower. His thumbs gently massaged as his grip tightened at her hips.
She shot him a warning look as she readjusted his hands higher on her back.
But she didn’t remove them completely. “Sorry. I felt a vibe and went for it.”
She laughed. “Maybe not the right choice in songs,” she said, though finally swaying in sync with him.
His gaze fell to her hips in her tight-fitting jeans and he had to force a breath. “I think it’s the perfect choice in song. Now, it’s our song.”
“Our song?”
“Yeah. Whenever we go to a wedding and they play it, we can say ‘hey, it’s our song,’ or when we’re driving through the mountains in the winter on the way to the cabin with the kids asleep in the back and it comes on the radio, we can crank it higher and sing along to…”
“Our song?” she finished shaking her head. “You really get ahead of yourself, don’t you?”
“You have no idea,” he said, his gaze locked on hers. The drinks, the beat of the music, the dim lighting in that corner of the bar, her soft, sweet smile made it impossible not to want to kiss her…but he held back. Too soon, too fast was not the way with this one, and that was the only speed he really knew. Not this time. This time it was her speed, her timing. He had no other choice—he was completely hooked on her.
But that didn’t stop him from taking her hand and kissing it, savoring the silky soft skin against his lips.
A conflicted look appeared on her face for just a brief second before she was leaning toward him. When her lips brushed his, his eyes widened. His grip tightened at her waist as her arms circled his neck once more.
Her height made her perfect to kiss. He didn’t need to bend at the knees or crank his neck. Her lips were soft, and she tasted like a mixture of gin and watermelon. Her hands crept into his hair, and she pressed her body to his. He could sense her give into the moment, all tension and apprehension disappearing. His hands cupped her face as he responded with an urgency he couldn’t control. Since the first day he’d met her, he’d wanted to kiss her, and now she was continuing to shock the hell out of him with the passion and heat that she’d initiated. Gone was the cool, guarded woman who’d walked into the bar two hours before. Now she was soft and dangerously seductive as her fingers tangled in his hair and her tongue parted his lips, demanding entry.
His fingers dug into her waist and only the beat of the music kept him grounded in their surroundings, preventing him from taking the kiss to an even more intoxicating level. He wanted so much more than a kiss…
Breathless, she pushed away slightly, her eyes snapping open as her hand flew to her lips.
He couldn’t not to take the opportunity to tease her. “That was a little forward, don’t you think?” He fought to calm his thundering pulse and hoped she couldn’t see the effect the kiss had had on him. His pants felt a whole hell of a lot tighter in the front, and resisting the urge to drag her out of there and back to his place was taking all his strength.
“Well, since you’d already planned family vacations, I took a chance that you wouldn’t mind,” she murmured against his lips as she moved in closer again. “And maybe the alcohol and the music went to my head a little.”
He touched her cheek as they continued to sway. Never in a million years had he expected this evening to turn out the way it was. She’d stayed beyond a quick drink. She’d actually taken the time to get to know him, and she’d let him in. The kiss had told him she was every bit as interested in him as he was in her. And he was feeling pretty damn good.
But a second later he knew he was screwed as her gaze wandered past him to the door. “Hey isn’t that your friend, Ben Westmore?"

But when Layla unknowingly sends Tyler a smack-down text meant for the girl sending naked photos to her then-boyfriend, Adam, Tyler has no idea it’s Layla and decides to play along. But as days and weeks pass, things take a turn for the serious between them, and suddenly, their texts mean more. Release Week Blitz & Giveaway ~ THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP by Shirley Jump

THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP
Author: Shirley Jump
Series: O’Bannon Sisters, #1
On Sale: July 11, 2017
Publisher: Forever
Trade Paperback: $14.99 USD
eBook: $6.99 USD
The first book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shirley Jump's new series featuring the O'Bannon sisters.

Bridget O'Bannon is ready for a do-over. After years of pretending she had a happy marriage and denying that she missed the friends and family she'd left behind, she's headed home to restart her life.

But working alongside her family every day at their bakery isn't as easy as whipping up her favorite chocolate peanut butter cake. Her mother won't give her a moment's peace, and her sister Abby is keeping secrets of her own. And there doesn't seem to be enough frosting in the world to smooth over the cracks forming between them.

Bridget can see the recipe for a happy life—including the possibility of a new romance—written out before her, but first she and her family will need to lay bare their secrets and rediscover the most elusive ingredients of all: forgiveness, laughter, and love.

The door let out a little tweet-tweet when Bridget entered the shop. She wandered the aisles, past the stacked bags of birdseed, the elaborate concrete birdbaths, enough binoculars to stock a Peeping Tom convention, and hundreds of birdhouses, in every imaginable shape, size, and color. There were mini replicas of the White House, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and even Windsor Castle.
“There’s enough here that you’d never have to leave your house to visit the seven wonders of the world.”
Bridget turned. A tall man in a dark suit stood beside her. He held two different bird feeders and had a book tucked under one arm. But it was his smile she noticed—nice, warm, friendly.
“How do you know which one to buy?” she asked.
“I don’t. That’s why I got two.”
Bridget laughed, the sound still feeling foreign and wrong. She sobered and turned back to the long row of bird feeders. They all looked like different versions of the exact same thing. Birds of all shape and feather were pictured on the boxes, but none of them looked like hummingbirds.
“What are you looking for?” he asked.
“I have this hummingbird in my yard, and I wanted to feed him,” Bridget said.
“Hummingbirds are something I know a little about. Blue jays and wrens, not so much, which is why I’m hedging my bets with a double purchase.” The man held up the two different feeders in his hands.  “I’m sorry, I haven’t introduced myself.” He put one of the bird feeders on a nearby shelf and then extended his right hand. “Garrett Andrews.”
She shook his hand and realized it was the first time she had touched a man since her husband had died. It was weird, but nice too. Garrett had a firm, warm handshake, over a second after it began. “Bridget Masterson…uh, O’Bannon. No, Masterson.”
His grin quirked. “Are you in WitSec or something?”
“WitSec?”
“Witness protection. Considering you’ve forgotten your last name.”
“Oh, no, it’s not that. I just…well, my husband just died and well…” She shook her head. Why was she telling a perfect stranger all of this?
“I’m sorry.” His gaze softened. “My wife died two years ago. When something like that happens, it’s as if your entire identity is ripped away. Who are you, when you’re just one of a half?”
“Exactly,” she murmured, and then turned back to the feeders. “So…hummingbirds?”
He took the change of subject in stride. He stepped forward and waved a hand across the displays, like one of the models on The Price Is Right. “Okay, you have a few options here. This one hangs from a copper swing and has a weather shield. That’s really just a plastic umbrella. You can put it in a tree—”
“I don’t have a tree close to the house. Is there something I can put on the window maybe? He seems to really like my kitchen window.”
“This one would be great for that.” Garrett handed her another box. A quartet of happy hummingbirds swarmed the feeder while a family watched from inside, all wearing delighted smiles. Buy the Window Wonder Feeder, the box said, and your family will be entertained for hours! “It’s got a weather guard, a removable ant moat, and holds eight ounces of nectar.”
She turned the box over. “Nectar?”
“Hummingbirds drink sugar water. You can make it yourself or”—he gave her a long glance—“if you’re not up to that yet, this stuff is already mixed.”
She took the red liter bottle from him and scanned the label. “I just pour this in and that’s it?”
“Well, not exactly. You have to clean the feeder a couple times a week. Wash it well, so it doesn’t get any mold in it. Then refill it and check it every day or so to make sure there’s still some nectar in there.”
She had yet to get her act together enough to do laundry. The whole thing seemed daunting, overwhelming. “That seems like a lot to worry about. Maybe I should forget it. Or wait until a better time.” She reached to place it back on the shelf.
Garrett put a hand on the box, stopping her. “I know right now that even the simple act of picking out a shirt to wear takes more mental energy than you think you have.”
Her eyes started to burn. She flicked her gaze to the tiled floor.
“But this will be good for you.” Garrett covered her hand with his own. His touch was tender, understanding. Like they were the only two in the world who knew this foreign language of widowhood. She didn’t move her hand, not right away. For a second, she let the empathy wash over her, rush in to fill the gaping holes in her mind.
“I don’t know.” She slid her hand out of his, pretending she needed to brush a hair off her forehead.
“I do.” He reached in his jacket pocket with one hand and then slid a business card between her fingers. “There’s my number. Text me, email me, call me, any time of day, if you want any tips on hummingbirds or if you just want to talk about how this whole thing sucks.”
“I…I…”
“I’m not trying to hit on you. I’m trying to help.” He gave her that smile again and nudged the box toward her chest. “Buy the feeder. Hang it up. Because it’s okay to let a living thing depend on you again, Bridget.”

Plot Without a Cause ~ Putting the Readers Back in Charge of Publishing {Guest Post}

Putting the Readers Back in Charge of Publishing

Imagine a YA publishing process without gatekeepers.  One where editors and agents read the manuscripts that readers love, not vice versa.  One where anyone with a knack for writing, a passion to succeed, and a little flair for self-promotion, has a fair shot at being published.

All too frequently, this isn’t the case.  Books often get rejected for reasons beyond authors’ control.  One editor turned down an ultimately successful book by saying, “The girl doesn't, it seems to me, have a special perception or feeling which would lift that book above the 'curiosity' level.”  The book in question?  The Diary of Anne Frank.  Furthermore, according to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, only about 10% of all YA books accepted for publication feature “multi-cultural content.”  Clearly, there are some blind spots that need addressing in the publishing industry.

It’s with this vision in mind that Publishizer is launching its YA book proposal contest called Plot Without a Cause.  Publishizer is a startup seeking to fill a hole in the publishing industry through crowdfunding.  It works like this:

You write the book proposal.  You know the book proposal I’m talking about.  The one you’ve been daydreaming about for years.  The one that just popped into your head last week and you haven’t stopped thinking about since.  The one for the manuscript that’s been dearly loved by you but maybe not so much yet by the publishing industry.  That one.  Then you register (for free!) on Publishizer’s website and post your proposal in the Plot Without a Cause section (again—for free!).

Now this is when you’ll have to start hustling.  Crowdfunding runs on pre-orders, so you had better start promoting that proposal.  Reach out over social media, post on your blog, email your old roommates—whatever it takes to start building buzz.  If you get the most preorders by the time the contest ends, you’ll win $1000 dollars.  And if you don’t have the highest number of preorders, don’t worry—you’ll still be queried to major publishers who fit your proposal.

Previous Publishizer contest participants have gotten interest and landed deals with a variety of traditional publishing companies, including Harvard Square Books, She Writes Press, and Weiser.  Publishizer takes a small commission on pre-orders when you choose a publisher at the end.

Every year, thousands of books are rejected by the publishing world for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the book—they’re too mainstream or not mainstream enough, too similar to books already being published or too different from books already being published.  Or the literary agent just doesn’t stand to make much money on the deal so they pass on a perfectly good book!  Imagine how many brilliant YA manuscripts go unpublished every year thanks to frustrating rejections.  Imagine how many hugely talented authors quietly give up on their dreams, just because the gate to a traditional publishing path isn’t open to them.

With their new YA book proposal contest, Plot Without a Cause, Publishizer is seeking to level the playing field.  Publishing decisions shouldn’t be based solely on a literary agent’s judgement or how many friends you have in the industry. They should be based on quality of writing and how many readers the book attracts.

Great books get overlooked all the time, and this is an opportunity to show acquiring editors that yours is worth paying attention to.  Not to mention the readership and funds you could gain in the process.  Crowdfunding (or crowd-publishing, in this case) is growing in popularity and brings a personal touch back to book sales—for readers and publishers.  Are you in?

Publisher: Forever
Mass Market: $7.99 USD
eBook: $5.99 USD

Olivia Davenport has finally gotten her life back together. She’s left her painful past behind, started over in a new town, and become Harmony Harbor’s most sought-after event planner. But her past catches up to her when Olivia learns that she’s now guardian of her ex’s young daughter. With her world spinning, Olivia must reconcile her old life with her new one. And she doesn’t have time for Harmony Harbor’s new doctor, no matter how handsome he is.

Olivia may act like she’s got everything under control, but Dr. Finn Gallagher knows a person in over her head when he sees one. He’d really like to be the shoulder she leans on, but Olivia makes it clear she doesn’t want his help. Since he’s returned to town, his waiting room has been full of single women feigning illness. Yet the one woman he’s interested in is avoiding him. But with a little help from some matchmaking widows and a precocious little girl, Finn might just win Olivia over.

BONUS: The eBook edition includes a complete novel from BookShots Flames, THE MCCULLAGH INN IN MAINE by Jen McLaughlin!

Olivia Davenport just wants to forget about her painful past.  Losing her son and finding out that her husband had married another woman while he was still married to Olivia just about devastated her.  Then to top it all off, she discovers that her deceased husband has given her custody to his daughter from the other marriage.  Olivia never asked for this life, and quite frankly, she just isn’t handling it all that well.  But who could blame her really?  She never expected to find love ever again, but fate has other plans for her when Finn, the town doctor, agrees to help her with her new stepdaughter and in the process, learns to love not only another man, but one adorable little girl, both finding a place in Olivia’s heart when she thought all was lost.

While all these changes are going on in Olivia’s life, someone is out to destroy the happiness that she is finally found, and it is up to Colleen (the Gallagher’s ghostly grandmother) to find a way to save Olivia from certain death and to ensure that Olivia and Finn get the happily ever after they both deserve.

I really enjoyed Primrose Lane!  Right from the beginning, I was instantly captivated and found myself connecting and caring for each of the characters.  This is a delightful story with just the right combination of romance, drama, suspense and ghostly intervention.  I loved the small town feel and felt as though I was right at home with the characters as they faced their challenges head on.  Debbie Mason is a talented storyteller that provides her readers with an exceptional story that is guaranteed to be an enjoyable reading experience that is not only captivating but unforgettable as well.  If you enjoy a sweet romance that is not only filled with love and hope, but is suspenseful as well, then I highly recommend Primrose Lane!

Dana leaned down to scoop her phone off the ground. No sooner had she picked it up than it rang. She recognized the number. Her finger trembled when she rejected the call. She should answer and get it over with. It might be something as simple as sending her copies of her divorce papers. But she didn’t believe that was all her lawyer wanted. Because every time she saw his number, the small hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, and she was overcome by a heavy sense of foreboding.
Strong fingers closed around her wrist. “Dana, relax. Take slow, even breaths or you’ll hyperventilate. That’s a girl,” Finn said when she did as he suggested, his other hand going to the nape of her neck. He gently massaged the tight muscles there, murmuring his encouragement as she got herself under control. There was no judgment in his voice. Just kindness and concern.
She’d heard Finn was well loved and respected by the people he served with Doctors Without Borders. She now had a better understanding why. Leaning against him, she was enveloped by the strength and warmth of his body and the seductive scent of his cologne.
“Thank you.” She self-consciously pulled away. “We should probably get going. I have to be back at the manor by two to get organized for the children’s craft session. They’re going to paint flowerpots for their mothers. I was going to use pink tulips but your dog trampled them, so maybe I’ll go with hyacinths. I think there’ll be enough. They’re pretty, and they mean constant love and fertility. That should work, don’t you think?”
“I have no idea what you're talking about. And not to be rude, but I really don’t care. What I do care about is who’s trying to contact you. It’s obvious that they frighten you, Dana. Why don’t you let me help?”
“No, it’s not what you think. I’m fine, honestly.”
“Sure you are, because perfectly fine people have panic attacks when they get a call in the middle of the afternoon, take too many sleeping pills, and wear a disguise. Come on, what do you take me for? At least do me the courtesy of being honest.”
All she could do was blink up at him, the warm feelings of moments ago shriveling up in response to his Arctic-cold words. She’d been right the day she met him. He probably did have a God complex. He might be ten years younger than her ex-husband, but he was just as sanctimonious and judgmental.

Book Review ~ Royal Pain (His Royal Hotness #1) by Tracy Wolff

Royal Pain
(His Royal Hotness #1)
by Tracy Wolff
Expected publication: September 19th 2017 by Loveswept

He’s a womanizer. He’s cocky. He’s not exactly a prince. Only he technically is. Meet your new royal obsession in this addictive novel from New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff.

Being rich opens a lot of doors. When you’re rich and royal, those doors lead to a new bedroom every night. I should know. The tabloids call me His Royal Hotness, Prince Kian of Wildemar. Women across the world see me as a naughty fairy tale, an image I’m happy to indulge. As the spare to the heir, I’m the prince with none of the power . . . and all of the perks.

Then my twin brother is kidnapped, and suddenly I’m the one who could be king. The crown chasers start circling—and yet it’s a luscious waitress who catches my eye. With a smart mouth and the curves to back it up, Savannah Breslin is as brazen as I’d expect an American commoner to be.

But Savvy’s not interested in playing Cinderella. As sexy as she is, she’s no stranger to heartbreak. Besides, a nice guy wouldn’t drag her into all the drama that comes along with royalty. Lucky I’m not a nice guy. And, as it turns out, I might not even be her first prince. . . .

Click HERE to add to Goodreads

Prince Kian of Wildemar has it all – he’s rich, good looking and can have any woman he wants.  He is a ‘spare’ to the throne however as his twin brother, Garrett, was born minutes earlier.  So you see, Kian has all the fun but none of the responsibility that comes with being next in line to the throne. All that changes though when Garrett is kidnapped and with not knowing if he is dead or alive, Kian must face his calling and deal with all the royal duties that he has wanted to avoid.  Kian’s playboy ways seem to vanish though when he meets Savvy and that is when this story begins to heat up and the real action begins.

What girl doesn’t dream of being swept off her feet by a handsome prince?  Although that wasn’t quite Savvy’s dream, it is a reality that she just can’t believe is true.  Not only has she fallen in love with a prince, this isn’t her first rodeo with the royal family.  Nope…you see Savvy dated Garrett five years ago, but the relationship did not work due to Garrett’s love of his country and his destiny of being the next King.  Although she is falling in love with Kian, she is afraid of falling too deep, fearing that Kian’s destiny will prevent any type of long-term relationship.

To be honest, I am so torn on how I feel about this book.  It’s a really cute story with the desired HEA, but something was just missing.  I felt as though the story could have been expanded on just a bit – maybe more background on Garrett’s and Savvy’s failed relationship would have helped.  Or maybe the story ended too perfectly – because let’s be honest, a King (especially the one in this story) will not let his son just marry anyone – especially a commoner – without some sort of conflict. I guess I would have liked to know what happened after Kian and Savvy announced their undying love to one another.  Did the King throw a royal fit? Did they get married?  Have kids?  Something….anything?  The ending to me felt rushed and just left me feeling empty despite the HEA.  Even though this story did not leave in a cliffhanger per say, I really hope that some of these questions will be answered in the next installment of this new series.

This was a fun read despite the few issues I had with the story and I will definitely check out the next installment when it releases.

Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. Now an English professor at her local community college, she writes romances that run the gamut from contemporary to paranormal to erotic suspense.

And for all of those who want the unedited version:
Tracy Wolff lives with four men, teaches writing to local college students and spends as much time as she can manage immersed in worlds of her own creation. Married to the alpha hero of her dreams for twelve years, she is the mother of three young sons who spend most of their time trying to make her as crazy as possible.
