Review ~ Melabeth the Vampire by E.B. Hood

Melabeth the Vampire
by E.B. Hood

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Melanie Dare is a teenage girl. Drugs and abuse by her parents change all that. She is raped and murdered and finds herself awake in a new decade. Melanie becomes Melabeth the vampire, and she is thrust into events outside of her control. Meeting a small circle of friends - not all who can be trusted - she finds herself obsessed with revenge against her killers… but along the way finds love. Her battle for revenge has terrible, unintended consequences, and she will question, who, and what she is. Can her love survive her need for revenge? This is the first part of a three part series about forgiveness.

My Review:
4 out of 5 stars

This story starts out with Melanie Dare digging out of her grave…..yes you read correctly….digging OUT of her grave.  While she is digging out, we get a glimpse of her past while she is reliving it in her mind and details on how she got to this current point in her life.  It seems her hippie parents got involved with drugs and eventually her mother died of overdose.  Life with her father became somewhat dreary as he turned to dealing drugs in order to support his lifestyle and feed him and Melanie.  When he spends the drug money that was supposed to go to his dealer, he sells out his daughter in exchange for his debt (He definitely doesn't get the Father of the Year Award in my book!). The men who took Melanie decided to make a snuff film to recoup the loss of the drug money with the star of the show being Melanie.  As all snuff films go, Melanie was killed.  Next thing she knows, she is being carried by a guy named Nicks who briefly explains that he has turned her into a Vampire, but the change might not work.  If it does take, she should wake up in her grave within 5 to 7 days.  Once Melanie gets out of the grave and takes care of her immediate hunger, she discovers that not only is she in Colorado, it is 15 years later and things certainly have changed in the world.

Deciding to call herself Melabeth (a combination of her first and middle name) she sets out to find her killers and seek revenge for her death.  On her journey back to California, she becomes friends with an unlikely pair...Carrie, a ghost and David, who can see ghosts. Oh, and David has another nifty gift as well, but you will have to read the book to find out what that is.  Melabeth also meets up with a Vampire family – The Whites - and will finally learn how to refine her abilities and train to prepare for her biggest battle yet and get revenge on the man responsible for her death.

With a plot and characters that are both unique and captivating, made this was a very entertaining book that was a pure joy to read.  It was thrilling and action-packed and was nearly impossible to put down once I started.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good action-packed vampire story with a dash of romance.
