Review ~ Summoned by Rainy Kaye

Summoned
by Rainy Kaye

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Twenty-three year old Dimitri has to do what he is told—literally. Controlled by a paranormal bond, he is forced to use his wits to fulfill unlimited deadly wishes made by multimillionaire Karl Walker.

Dimitri has no idea how his family line became trapped in the genie bond. He just knows resisting has never ended well. When he meets Syd—assertive, sexy, intelligent Syd—he becomes determined to make her his own. Except Karl has ensured Dimitri can’t tell anyone about the bond, and Syd isn’t the type to tolerate secrets.

Then Karl starts sending him away on back-to-back wishes. Unable to balance love and lies, Dimitri sets out to uncover Karl’s ultimate plan and put it to an end. But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming—the wish that will destroy him.

A dark twist on the genie folklore, SUMMONED follows a reluctant criminal as he unravels the mystery of the paranormal bond controlling him.

My Review:
4 out or 5 stars
Before diving into this book, I saw this note on Goodreads providing some details on what this book contained:

Note: SUMMONED contains strong language, naughty scenes, mature content, terrible wishes, mystery, violence, discomfort, explosions, and an apple.
Um, should I still read this one I ask?  Hell, yes!  So I began this book expecting pure awesomeness and I was not disappointed!

Dimitri is a modern day genie with absolutely no special powers.  He has to rely on his creativity in order to pull off the jobs that Karl wishes him to do.  Karl is like your modern day Mafia boss and is totally unlikable.  Dimitri really has no choice but to do Karl's bidding  due to the bond between him and Karl.  If Dimitri fails to complete a job, he starts to have a debilitating humming noise in his head that only gets worse and drives him insane.  I started out really not liking Dimitri because of the things that he has to do in order to fulfill his master Karl's wishes but in the end I totally fell in love with him.

Dimitri's  love life is practically non-existent because he never knows when he will be summoned by Karl.  But when Syd enters on to the scene, oh lord, watch out!  Syd is a very persistent, feisty, independent woman who I instantly liked! Dimitri is instantly attracted to her and before you know it, the naughty scenes mentioned in the note above begin.  These two are HOT together!

There is so much to like about this book!  It has a wonderful paranormal plot that is realistic in nature, and tons of hilarious situations thrown in that made me laugh out loud as I was reading.   What I really liked about this book is that is not really your typical romance novel.  Yes, there are some hot and steamy moments, but this book is in fact more of a mystery that needs to be unraveled.  It kept me turning each page trying to figure out exactly what the heck was going on.  It is absolutely an amazing action-packed story that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.  I could not put this one down until I devoured every page.  Rainy Kaye is a magnificent storyteller and I cannot wait to read future books written by this amazing author.
