Book Review ~ India Was One by An Indian

India Was One
by An Indian

…Suddenly, he saw something shiny at the bottom of the abyss. He squinted his eyes to see what it was. He ran back to his binoculars and turned them to see what it was. Sharp barbed wires that separated the two mountains came into focus. He had come as far as he could in his country. But she was standing in another country.

He was in South India and she was in North India…

Have you ever imagined India being divided into two countries? What happens to the millions of Indians who are from South India but are now residing in North India? Kaahi & Jai were two such people who got trapped in this situation. Everything was going smoothly for them and suddenly, their world turned upside down.

How will they get together? Will India become one again?

Take an exciting journey with them from their college days in Mumbai to their life in the US and back to India when they find out that India is divided.

I really did not know what to expect when I started reading India Was One,  but once I began , several things happened.   I was entertained, gained insightful knowledge of the Indian culture and fell in love with the characters.  The opening of this story was absolutely heart-breaking and begged me to continue on - to find out if Jai and Kaahi would be reunited after being separated because of their country's civil unrest.    The author's descriptive words really brought depth to this wonderful story.  The artwork at the beginning of each chapter was a beautiful touch as well.  The author also incorporated the use of the Indian dialect which was really a nice touch.

Overall, this book was well-written that flowed almost effortlessly.  I am extremely grateful that I was given the opportunity to read and review this book which provided me with a much better understanding of the Indian culture.

I am at a loss as to what genre this amazing novel would fall under, but if you like to read a culture enriched, action-packed, political themed thriller with a smidgen of romance, then this is a must read!

My rating:  4 out of 5 stars
