Fingers in the Mist
by O'Dell Hutchison
Sixteen-year-old
Caitlyn Foster never believed in the legend of the Redeemers. That was before
the trees started to whisper her name. Before a murder of crows attacked the
town. Before she and her family came home to find a bloody handprint on their
front door, marking one of them as a sacrifice. As Caitlyn’s friends are ripped
from their homes, she knows it’s only a matter of time before the Redeemers
come for her. Caitlyn has the power to stop the terror, but she’ll have to
decide if she’s willing to sacrifice herself to save those she loves.

"Mind
your manners and do what's right.
This will
keep you safe at night.
But if you
give yourself to sin,
You will let
the Redeemers in.
If God's
path is not your goal,
Then the
Redeemers will take your soul."
Sound
pretty creepy, uh? Well, you have no
idea how creepy this story is! Eerily creepy. Horrifyingly creepy. And gosh dang it, LOVED it!
As
penance for their sins, marked households must sacrifice one member of their
family to the Redeemers. Seven unlucky
souls, including sixteen-year old Caitlyn, must accept that they along with the
town have no say in the matter. The
Redeemers are only fulfilling the Lord's work and they must comply. The town basically shuts down for seven days. No electricity, running water for a few hours
a day and the fear that if you are caught out of your house when the fog rolls
in, your death is certain. Oh, and they aren't able to leave the town because
you will be stopped - and killed. This
is a small sacrifice for the many luxuries that the citizens have in their
small but very prosperous and peaceful town.
As the marked are taken away, it is up to Caitlyn to stop the ancient
evil that has plagued the town for centuries.
But how can one teenage girl stop the madness? Well you see, Ms. Caitlyn has a pretty
awesome weapon in her arsenal and she is determined to kick some serious
butt!
Before I even read the synopsis of Fingers in the Mist,
I had to read it. Yes, I judge a book by its cover – I admit it, and I am
not ashamed. I mean look at this cover. So dark, so creepy and the
blood spatters instantly let the reader know that they are about to embark on a
truly horrifying experience. Did the story inside the cover meet my high
expectations? Boy did it! This eerie and horrifying story had me hooked
from the very beginning and it was impossible to put down as the author took me
on a journey that tested the limits of my imagination. I really
enjoyed the unique blend of horror, paranormal and sci-fi elements in this
well-written story that flowed seamlessly and effortlessly. And the ending - well, I did not see it
coming at all and can only hope that the next installment of this series comes
out soon.
Fingers in the Mist is a definite must read for
any fan of horror/paranormal especially someone who loves Stephen King. Give
this one a try - you will not regret it!
