Otherworldly desire and paranormal action reach new heights in the final installment of The Soulkeepers. As Sophia St. James moves Heaven and Hell to claim her destiny, questions are answered, secrets are revealed—and immortal love is tested.

After finally becoming a powerful Spirit Walker, Sophia St. James is shocked to discover that her conjured identical twin, Ka—along with her soul—have been dragged down to Hell by the relentless Demon Knight Dante. Sophia tries to hide the crisis, but there is little hope of keeping any secrets from her red-hot Guardian Angel. Growing suspicious, Michael has been making plans of his own that will bind him and Sophia together forever.

But Sophia is plagued with evil visions through Ka’s experiences in Hell. She is terrified that Dante will discover he has taken the wrong Sophia. Desperate to return to her original state before she withers away and dies, she risks everything to go where Michael can’t follow. To bring back Ka and save her own soul, Sophia must now enter the gates of Hell.

Before I even begin, I want to thank Random House Publishing and NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to review this amazing book! The first two installments of the Soulkeepers saga have been so amazingly epic; you can’t even imagine the happiness that filled my heart when I was able to get my hands on an ARC of Unforgiven.  Was it everything I expected it to be?  Oh my, YES - plus so much more than I could ever hope for.

Let’s touch on the cover before I dive into my thoughts.  The covers for the first two books in the Soulkeepers series have been beautiful, but this one?  I absolutely LOVE it!  So dark, but yet you know there is about to be an amazing love story between two people.  But who will win Sophia’s heart, Dante or Michael?

Now, on to my thoughts.

The action starts off right where Awaken left off and Sophia has gotten herself in quite a mess.  Her soul has been ripped from her and placed in her double, Ka, who just happens to be in hell with Dante.  Sophia has to keep this a secret because, well who would want a Spirit Guide without a soul helping you cross over?

Dante is happy as he can be because he believes Sophia finally remembers her past life and the love they had for each other.  As he plans for their life together in Hell, he is totally clueless on what is really going on.  Ka doesn’t help matters any, because she is remembering the love that was lost and now believes she will have everything her heart desires, including power.

In Awaken, I will be the first to admit that Michael really did piss me off, but this time around, he redeemed himself.  He now understands that Sophia needs to be her own, unique self and he is 100% on her side and supporting her just as she deserves.  Yet, there is still that little problem that is preventing them to be together – guardian angels are forbidden from loving humans.  Will love conquer all?  Well, just read this amazing story to find out!

Just when I thought that Lori Adams couldn't possibly improve what was already perfection, she showed once again what an amazing writer she is by exceeding my expectations – and believe me, they were high. Unforgiven is so uniquely captivating and so utterly compelling I really had to struggle to put this book down.  With tons of action, hot romance and characters you can’t help but love and love to hate, Unforgiven is a definite must read that I would highly recommend to any fans of paranormal romance.

     Rama and Michael are near the door when we approach. Rama is fidgety and eager to leave. Michael has changed into jeans and a dark blue shirt. He is in the center of a crowd, swamped by congratulating pats on the back and vigorous handshakes. So many friends and warriors have come to offer their praise, and young guardians to ask his advice. Their admiration and respect is obvious, and Michael favors them with a patient smile. His mind is on other matters.
     When he sees me, his face stills, and then he breaks away, making vague excuses to his admirers. We meet at the door, where Milvi is entertaining Rama with her dramatic and overdescriptive view of the ceremony. He listens politely while she points out holy dignitaries who’ve attended or friends from Estonia whom she hasn’t seen in ages. I realize I haven’t congratulated Michael on becoming a Halo so I tell him now. He smiles and cocks his head in a faint bow.
     “And congratulations to you, too, spirit walker Sophia.” His voice is soft and thick with emotion. “I’m happy for you. You’ve earned your place.” His smile is warm and loving, and I know he means it. Michael is truly happy for me.
     His gaze lingers longer than necessary. He wants to say more, much more, but Rama is watching us. Without a word, my Ascended Master steps between us and takes my elbow, deliberately guiding me out the door.
     With no moon or stars, we are instantly swallowed by the night. Snowflakes dance around the four of us as we traipse up the thick path leading to the Patronus farmhouse. It’s a short trek that moves organically through trees, across an open field, and around Katarina’s extensive garden. We’re nearly there when I realize I’m not as cold as I should be. I stop and scoop snow into my hands. It’s chilled but not so icy.
     “Why don’t I feel the cold?”
     Everyone turns and looks back at me. Milvi laughs and smashes the snowball I’ve made. “Because you have spiritual energy rushing through your veins. Rama didn’t tell you what to expect?”
Rama is distracted, and I suspect he’s been preoccupied with more important issues. He comes around to the question. “Oh, for sure. I’ll tell her what to expect. There just hasn’t been time yet. Lots of changes coming, wahine. And for you, too, Michael. Now that you’re a Halo.”
     Rama and Michael lock eyes for a moment, and then Michael gives him a sharp nod. He seems well aware of the duties and expectations required of an elite warrior. The details are lost on me. I don’t want to think about Michael being called away or sent on a mission. We haven’t had time to settle things between us. If he’s called up now, we might not see each other for a very long time. The idea makes a knot of my stomach.
     The Victorian farmhouse is situated at the top of a gentle hill. It’s a glorious sight, with numerous peaks and dormers heavy with snow. Tall, beveled windows glow with soft light. Smoke drifts from the chimney, adding a pleasant, earthy aroma to the frigid smell of snow. We plod up the steps and onto the sprawling back porch, stomping snow from our shoes. Milvi bursts out laughing because Rama’s huarache sandals have disappeared completely. He looks like he’s wearing two giant snowballs.
     I manage a faint smile. Milvi’s laughter reminds me that this should’ve been a night for celebration. Rama deserves some fun after all the stress I’ve put him through during my training. Unfortunately, I’ve ruined that, too. After we thank Michael’s family for their good wishes, Rama and I will have to leave. I’m sure he’s feeling just as desperate to find Bailey as I am. We have to know what happened to Ka.
     We pile through the back door and then stop in the hallway, overcome by an angry shouting voice coming from the living room.
     “You promised to protect her! You gave me your word that nothing would happen to her! You’re angels, for God’s sake! How could you let this happen?”
     “Please, calm down so that we may understand what has you so upset.” Katarina addresses the outburst in her characteristically patient tone.
     Michael and I look quickly at each other. We can’t comprehend what we’re hearing. Or how it’s even possible.
Milvi murmurs “Uh-oh,” and pushes past us. We follow hard on her heels, down the hall and into the living room. I stop cold.
     “Dad?”
     He whirls around, just as stunned to see me as I am to see him.

Book Review ~ Awaken (The Soulkeepers #2) by Lori Adams

Awaken
(The Soulkeepers #2)
by Lori Adams

Expected publication: July 15th 2014 by Flirt

The thrills continue in Lori Adams’s addictive New Adult series of paranormal romance—the Soulkeepers—featuring the hottest love triangle in this life . . . or the next.

Sophia St. James has every reason to be happy: she survived the kiss of death from the seductive Demon Knight Dante and is free to be with Michael, her sexy Guardian Angel. She eagerly begins her Awakening to become a Spirit Walker and help lost souls cross over. But her training is fraught with setbacks, and Michael begs her to stop. The life of a Spirit Walker is far too dangerous, and he won’t be able to protect her.

Then Dante returns, threatening to drag Sophia to Hell so they can finally be together. Terrified of losing everything she has worked for, Sophia turns the tables on Dante, luring him into a deception that may get them both killed. The stakes climb even higher when Dante’s ally, Wolfgang, emerges from Hell with one order: kill Sophia. Will Michael once again be Sophia’s saving grace or will the Awakening give her the power she needs to save herself?

First off, I want to thank Random House Publishing and NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to review this awesome book!

Second, take a look at that cover!  I absolutely LOVE the cover!  It is so beautiful and practically begs you to open the book and continue the Soulkeeper journey!

Now, on to my thoughts.

Sophia survived the 'kiss of death' from Damon and is eagerly waiting to begin her Awakening so that she can become Spirit Walker, helping lost souls cross over.  This is something that she really wants to do, but Michael puts a damper on things and tells Sophia that he does not want her to continue, declaring that it is far too dangerous.  Sophia is having none of that nonsense and continues with her training with her awesome and funny spiritual trainer, Rama.  She really is determined to become a Spirit Walker and she's not going to let anyone stand in her way to accomplish her goal.  There was one point in the story where she was having a difficult time keeping up with her school work and her training, so she and Bailey come up with an idea to help in the matter.  Not a good idea.  Not. At. All!  Nothing good will come from this action and I believed at the time that it would bite her in the butt later on, and if I'm right, it did.  Of course with the cliffhanger ending, I guess we won't know until the next book.  But despite all of that, Sophia's character has really shown some growth since book one.

Michael has been selected as a candidate for the Halos, so he is spending most of his time in the story training for the trials.  The trials are tough and grueling, but Michael really shows he can kick some major butt.   I am really frustrated with his character because he really changed, becoming controlling and possessive toward Sophia.  I realized he is under a lot of pressure competing in the trials, but really that is no excuse to be angry and bossy toward Sophia.  I am just torn right now about this sudden change.  I really do believe he still loves Sophia, but his actions just suck.

And then there's Damon.  After his failure in the first book, he has been subjected to horrible punishments and has endured a lot of pain in Hell's version of jail.  Still determined to reclaim the soul of his lost love, he, along with Vaughn, escape from the depths of hell so that he can bring Sophia back with him to live forever in Hell.  He only has limited time to accomplish this and he is doing everything in his power to draw Sophia to him.  I really do like Damon and at this point I hope that he succeeds, but, and that is a big but, he needs to find a way to stay in a non-hell like environment so Sophia does not have to endure his hellish home.  And let's be honest, Sophia and Michael can't ever be a couple unless they find a loophole or something, so I think Damon is perfect for her.  I know, I'm crazy, but Damon is so sexy and so sweet when he wants to be. Can you tell I'm Team Damon?

Lori Adams has done the impossible - perfected perfection.  I thought that Forbidden was amazing, but Awaken is so much better.  More action, more romance and well, just more everything I love in a paranormal romance.  Everything about the story flowed so smoothly and so effortlessly.  From page one I was sucked into this amazing story of angels and demons and forbidden love, and before I knew it, I was at the end.  The cliffhanger at the end (and yes, it is a HUGE cliffhanger) left me begging for the next book immediately!  I will be eagerly and not so patiently waiting for its release.

If you are looking for an amazing and unique paranormal romance that never has a dull moment, has an intense love-triangle, fabulous characters and a captivating, action-filled plot, then look no further than this highly addictive series.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Review - Forbidden: The Soulkeepers by Lori Adams

Sophia St. James is  17 years old and moves to New Hurst, Connecticut with her father from Los Angeles.  Once moved, she makes good friends with a totally fun and witty group of fellow classmates.  Among these friends is Michael.  Michael is a (sexy) guardian angel who starts to develop feelings for Sophia, which is highly prohibited and as much as he tries to deny his feelings, you just can’t stop love.  Of course, no story would be complete unless you add a sexy bad-boy demon tossed into the mix.  This demon is Dante and after decades of searching, he has finally found the soul of his former lover, which happens to now reside in Sophia, and he will do everything in his power to reunite with his lost love.

In Forbidden: The Soulkeepers, Lori Adams has managed to create an awesome story packed with forbidden romance, good vs. evil and paranormal adventure.  There is so much to like in this book!   It grabbed my attention from page one and never wavered.  The characters are likable and the dialogue between them made me laugh as I was reading the story.  The only thing I did not like about this book is that I have so many questions that were left unanswered at the end and now I have to wait for the next one to come out.

Forbidden:  The Soulkeepers (book one) is due to be published April 15, 2014 so be sure to check it out!

5 out of 5 stars

*I received a copy of this from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lori Adams gives New Adult a haunting paranormal twist with the first novel of The Soulkeepers, a series that blends ancient legends and new myths with an enchanting mix of thrills, humor, and high drama.
When Sophia St. James learns that she’ll be moving from Los Angeles to a podunk town somewhere in Connecticut for her senior year of high school, she isn’t expecting an otherworldly encounter. But there is more to Haven Hurst than meets the eye: it’s home to a family of Guardian Angels, and she is the only one who can see them in spirit form. Sophia soon realizes she wants to see much more of Michael, an irresistible yet volatile Guardian who seems drawn to her too.
As Michael battles his forbidden desire for the beautiful young newcomer, one of Hell’s most notorious Demon Knights arrives. Handsome and charismatic, Dante has come to claim the reincarnated soul of his lost lover trapped in Sophia. Cursed with the demon of Persuasion living inside him, Dante will use his seductive charms to lure Sophia into a dangerous game that ends with the kiss of death—unless Michael, who has captured Sophia’s heart, can now capture her soul. ~ Goodreads
