Rite of Redemption
By Sarah Negovetich
Date of Publication: June 6th, 2016
Genre: YA Dystopian
Series: Acceptance, Book Three
Page Count: 300

Rebecca escaped the PIT, found a family among the Freeman...and watched too many loved ones die. All she wants is the Cardinal to leave her in peace, but he's made it clear that's never going to happen.

When the Cardinal attacks other Freeman villages, she finally understands that no one is safe from his wrath. As the only one who's stood up to the evil that is the Cardinal, it's up to her to convince the others that they can't hide forever. It's time to fight.

The Machine predicted Rebecca would become the Cardinal's enemy. It may have gotten that one right.

In the conclusion to the Acceptance series, enemies become allies and old friends emerge, but in the end, sacrifice may be the price of freedom.

Back in 2014, Sarah Negovetich introduced me to a strange, harsh new world by releasing Rite of Rejection and although she never intended to take this story any further, she listened to the pleas of her readers and gave us more in Rite of Revelation.  Even though I thought this story couldn’t get any better, it did – and it blew me away.  Now Ms. Negovetich has wrapped up this trilogy in Rite of Redemption and it was everything I have come to expect from this author plus so much more!

This is a story of hope, love, the desire to belong and the desire to change the seemingly impossible.  It is also a story of believing in yourself and doing what you feel is right despite what others might feel is wrong.  Most importantly of all, this is a story of the desire for something better, but finding out that sometimes it’s hard to change a system that people have come to believe has kept them safe for more than a century.  Knowing who to trust and discovering that those you trust objectives are not aligned with yours really make this story one that will have you second guessing everything that has been laid out before you.

Rite of Redemption was a spectacular finish to what has become my favorite trilogy!  I am sad that it has come to an end, but extremely satisfied with the final outcome.  I loved everything about this series - from the concept, the characters and the world that Ms. Negovetich created.  Rite of Redemption kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading wondering how this story would end.  Suspense, action, love and betrayal and the desire to change a system that just isn’t working, brought this series to a dramatic ending that wrapped up very nicely.

Sarah Negovetich has become one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what she gives her readers next.  If this series is any indication of what she can deliver, I know without a doubt that whatever she writes, it’s going to be awesome.

If you are looking for a great read that is uniquely different and impossible to put down, then this series is one you will definitely need to check out especially if you like Young Adult Dsytopian fiction.

The Cardinal plans to execute seventeen-year-old Rebecca Collins, just as soon as he gets what he needs to solidify his rule over the United Territories. Faced with certain death, Rebecca discovers not everyone is under the Cardinal's control. A new alliance helps Rebecca and her friends escape the PIT, giving Rebecca a chance to live the life her Rejection took away.

Last year, I had the pleasure of reading Rite of Rejection and finding a new author to add to my ever growing list of favorites.  But after devouring the story, I had questions in the end and needed to know more – more about what happened after the speech  – more about Rebecca, Daniel and Eric - just MORE.  Thankfully, Ms. Negovetich heard the pleas of her readers and has given us Rite of Revelation, and for this reader, I am ecstatic beyond words!

So, was Rite of Revelation everything I wanted it to be?  Why, yes…yes it was, plus so much more! In Rite of Rejection, the story left off with Rebecca giving her speech across the hacked airwaves, and even though it left me with a feeling of hope for the people, there really was no closure.  I mean, did they escape? Did life get better?  Did the Cardinal finally get what he had coming? In this second installment of the Acceptance series, the author took the story to heights I didn't see coming and I loved it!  This is a story of hope, love, the desire to belong and the desire to change the seemingly impossible.  It is also a story of believing in yourself and doing what you feel is right despite what others might feel is wrong.  Most importantly of all, this is a story of the desire for something better, and along the way finding out that it was right in front of you staring you in the face.

From the start, the story grabbed my attention and held it until the very last page.  I loved all the characters, and really enjoyed witnessing their growth as they dealt with everything life was dishing out.  I became completely immersed in the world that the author has created and at times found myself holding my breath because things grew intense at times.  The writing flows almost effortlessly and the story line is one that is easy to believe. My only disappointment is now I have to wait for the next book to be released.

If you are looking for a great read that is uniquely different and impossible to put down, then this series is one you will definitely need to check out especially if you like Young Adult Dsytopian fiction.

I will be the first to admit that I was beyond pleasantly surprise about how good this book was.  I take that back – it was FANTASTIC!  Rite of Rejection is a perfect example of how young adult dystopian fiction should be done.

Rite of Rejection pulled me in with the first chapter and held my attention until the very end.  I devoured this story, unable to put it down; believe me I tried, but this one kept creeping into my thoughts, begging for me to finish.  This is a story of desperation, hope, love and the desire to change a corrupt system.  Ms. Negovetich’s attention to detail and solid writing really drew me into this story and I could picture the entire thing unfolding in my mind.  From the filth and stench of the PIT to the desperation of the colony, I could not help but want something better for the characters.

Rite of Rejection has its own unique personality, and I believe fans of dystopian fiction will love it.  The ending did leave me with some questions, but overall I finished with a feeling of great satisfaction.  If there is a sequel to this awesome story, I will definitely be reading it.

I turn to Eric, but he isn’t staring at the rolling ocean any more. Reaching up, he tucks a strand of short hair the wind has blown loose back behind my ear. All of Eric’s features are highlighted in the white light of the moon. His strong chin and broad mouth. Even his nose, which looks a little crooked this close. There’s no denying that he’s handsome.
Eric steps closer, taking both of my hands in his own. I have no experience in situations like this, but I’m almost certain he’s going to kiss me. Pretty soon we’ll be married, even if it is only a document. I want him to kiss me.

I slide forward the tiniest bit, unable to resist the draw of his warmth. His eyes close and his head dips down towards mine, so I lift up my face to meet him.

His lips are warm and salty against mine. His mouth pushes down into mine, sending a flood of warmth through my body. Familiar hands move to the small of my back, finding a perfect spot to rest, pulling me closer. I’m not sure what to do with my hands, but they find a natural place on Eric’s shoulders.

Cheryl and I spent countless hours imagining the fateful moments of our first kisses. I always pictured it happening while sitting on my parent’s front porch, rocking on the hanging swing. Crickets would serenade me and my future husband while lightning bugs created the perfect atmosphere. We’d be sipping tall glasses of lemonade and holding hands because the thought of a firm hand holding mine always sounded perfect.

My dream man would lean in and whisper ‘I love you’ in my ear and I would smile back and say ‘I love you, too.’ And then, because we both know that kind of declaration is always followed shortly by an engagement, he would kiss me. Our lips touching for the first time would be a brief, but sweet promise of years of kisses to come.

Eric’s kiss doesn’t hold any of that promise. He’s never said he loves me and I wouldn’t be able to say it back. But maybe that doesn’t matter anymore. I wrap my hands around his neck and deepen the kiss, pushing myself to feel…more. This is my future. Eric is my future.

Porch swings and lemonade belong to Cheryl now. My first kiss is a rundown rooftop and ocean waves crashing in the background. The PIT has taken too much. I’m claiming this moment. It owes me this first kiss.

One

Before You Stands the Future. The dark-red banner strung across the storefront awning matches the dozens of others lining the streets of the shopping district. Each one with the same clock counting down to Acceptance. Tomorrow morning can’t get here soon enough.
I push the glowing blue button and the door slides open with a staccato puff of air. Overhead, an electric bell dings as I shuffle into the upscale boutique packed with other Candidates. Cheryl is right behind me, bouncing on her toes with each step. My mother would die of embarrassment if I showed the same lack of decorum as my best friend, but I’m bouncing on the inside. Our mothers walk in behind us and the door slides shut with another whoosh of air.
We visited half the shops in Cardinal City this morning in our search for the perfect dresses and dyed-to-match shoes. I got a thrill buying my first pair of silk gloves, Cheryl and I gushing over the tiny pearl buttons, but this is the purchase I’m looking forward to the most.
Shelves bursting with dance cards cover every square inch of wall space. Dozens of girls sigh and squeal over the small books we’ll use to record the names of our dance partners for tomorrow’s ball. I wipe damp palms against the cool material of my skirt and force myself to focus on the goal. One of these books is the perfect one for me. Hopefully, by the end of tomorrow night, it will hold the name of my future husband.
